Stepping into CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park for this year’s Future of Financial Services event, it was clear: the appetite for innovation in the finance sector has never been stronger.
As exhibitors alongside our partners at OutSystems, the 9X5 team had the opportunity to engage directly with senior executives, technologists, and decision-makers from across the industry. The expo floor was buzzing with meaningful conversations, from modernising legacy infrastructure to harnessing low-code and AI to drive business outcomes.
The event brought together over 400 leaders for a full day of keynotes, panels, and interactive sessions, all centered around six future-facing themes:
Modernising Financial Platforms
Legacy systems remain one of the biggest roadblocks to digital transformation. Sessions on this theme explored how financial institutions can re-architect their infrastructure to improve agility, enhance customer experience, and unlock new revenue streams. From core banking upgrades to cloud-first strategies, the focus was on building scalable platforms that support long-term innovation.
Low-Code Efficiency
Low-code emerged as more than just a buzzword, it’s now a strategic enabler. This theme highlighted how development teams are using low-code platforms like OutSystems to reduce delivery times, increase agility, and empower cross-functional collaboration. For many institutions, it’s become the key to doing more with less, especially in resource-constrained environments.
Agentic AI
One of the most discussed topics of the day, agentic AI is transforming how decisions are made in real time. Presentations focused on how autonomous AI systems are beginning to take on complex tasks—evaluating data, predicting outcomes, and adapting without constant human input. The potential to streamline underwriting, fraud detection, and even investment management was a key takeaway.
Fraud, Scams & Financial Crime
With financial crime growing in sophistication, this stream examined the technologies helping institutions respond faster and smarter. From AI-powered anomaly detection to real-time transaction monitoring, speakers emphasised the need for adaptive systems that not only catch fraud, but also build trust and transparency with customers.
Dopamine Banking
A fascinating exploration of behavioural design, this theme looked at how neuroscience and neuromarketing are being used to build more engaging, habit-forming digital experiences. The takeaway? Banks and fintechs that understand human psychology can better influence positive financial behaviours, and strengthen long-term customer relationships.
Centres of Excellence (CoE)
For organisations seeking sustainable innovation, Centres of Excellence offer a structured path forward. This topic explored how CoEs can unify processes, standardise best practices, and enable faster experimentation across departments. Whether focused on data, AI, or customer experience, CoEs are becoming essential to agility and growth at scale.
